Thirteen Delta Greely School District Seniors took the time to fill out multiple scholarship applications for an opportunity to participate in the traditional local community scholarship interview night which took place on May 8^th. Representatives from the organizations praised these students for their preparedness and detailed plans for furthering their education. These scholarships are going to students who intend to pursue careers in Engineering, Nursing, Medical Field, Anesthesiology, Education, Marine Biology, Psychology, Photography, Medical Assistant, Culinary Arts, and Child Development   The scholarship recipients were announced at graduation on May 18^th. Here is a recap:

Delta High School Boosters supports activities and its participants within the high school. This organization required an additional essay addressing the importance of involvement in school activities. The responses as well as recommendations were the most heavily weighed. The Booster club awarded Jay Byam and Chance McLaren scholarships in the amount of $500. The Booster club also awarded a $1,000 Kiwanis Scholarship to Jay Byam.

The Buffalo Chapter of the Alaska State Employees Association awarded their recipients $500 because of their outstanding performance and exceptional achievements. The two scholarships went to Chance McLaren and Brittany Palmer.

Bering-KAYA Support Services (BKSS)  Ft. Greely is the sponsor of two scholarships exclusively for Delta High School National Honor Society members.  This year two scholarships in the amount of $1250.00 were awarded to Chance McLaren and Sydney Kelderman. These two students best represented the qualities of an NHS member: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Pioneers of Alaska was formed in early territorial settling days for social purposes and to “collect and preserve the incidents of Alaska’s history, and to promote the best interests of Alaska”. Igloo #1 was formed in Nome in 1907. The Pioneers of Alaska Men’s Igloo #35 and Women’s Igloo #19 required the scholarship recipient to be related to a member of either Igloo and has maintained a GPA of 3.0. Amanda Terry received this scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Dr. Jamie McNabb at Arctic Chiropractic awarded $500 to Brittany Palmer.

Delta Chamber of Commerce was looking for applicants who were interested in pursuing a business related field and planned on returning to Delta. Criteria were also based on community service activities.

The recipient of $1,000 was Igor Koval.

The Delta Clearwater Senior Citizens awarded a scholarship in the amount of $500 to Brittany Palmer.

Delta Concrete awarded Jay Byam $1,000.

The Delta Greely Education Association awarded Amanda Terry a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

The Delta Greely Educational Support Personnel Association awarded Heather Yearty this year’s scholarship in the amount of $500.

Chance McLaren and Korina McDavid each received $1,000 from the Delta Lions Club.

Delta’s IGA Food Cache awarded Jacob Schultz, Brittany Palmer, and Mallory Rush scholarships in the amount of $500. The Gary Frederick Memorial Scholarship awarded by the IGA was given to Richard Gardner in the amount of $1,000.

The Delta Skating Association awarded the Linda Sorensen Memorial Scholarship to Jacob Schultz and Chance McLaren in the amount of $250.

Korina McDavid and Brittany Palmer received the Women of the Moose scholarship in the amount of $500. Valentina Kurilchenko received the Women of the Moose Adele Woodruff Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Jacob Schultz and Grace Ellis both received the Faith Denali Lutheran Preschool scholarship in the amount of $300.
