Your Letter of Support Needed

Dear Delta Junction Community Members:

As you are aware, the DCSP will be applying for funding to assist in building senor housing in Delta Junction, and are completing a pre development application for a grant from the Alaska Housing Authority. The total grant amount, which is just a beginning, is $14,500. If awarded, these funds are to be used for senior housing pre development activities including an architectural schematic design, soils testing, and other preliminary work.

As part of the application process, we must show that we have community support in the form of letters from individuals, businesses and our political leaders. I am writing to you to ask you for a letter of support.

The following is a sample letter that you can cut and paste to your stationary and amend as you will. The deadline for the letters is February 1, 2010. You can fax your letter to me at 907 479-9666 or you can scan the letter to me in an e-mail.

Thank you for all of your support.

RE: DCSP Pre Development Application for the Delta Junction Senior Housing Project-

Dear Committee Members,

I am writing in support of the Deltana Community Services Partnership, Inc (a 501(c) 3 non profit corporation) application for pre development funding with the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. Delta Junction seniors have rallied together over the past two years, to create a community coalition and identify needs that are relevant to the seniors in our community. After a survey of 448 community seniors over the age of 55, the highest need identified is affordable senior housing.

The DCSP is attempting to address this issue with their AHFC Senior Housing pre development application. Currently senior housing is non existent in the Delta Junction community and aging seniors who desire or need a safe, accessible senior facility are forced to leave the community. Our seniors have a right to age with dignity, remain in their communities and to live as independently as possible.

Many Delta Junction seniors are pioneers of Alaska, founding fathers of the Alaska highway, the Interior Alaska infrastructure, the Trans Alaska Pipeline, Fort Greely Military base or are retired veterans. These seniors have contributed to the success of our great state, and these seniors deserve the right to independence within the community.

This preliminary funding will help to make the Delta Junction Senior Housing project a reality. I strongly support this project and I urge you to fund this project. (Add more of your own words). If you have any questions, I can be reached at ______________.
